We have several interesting and exciting
Religious Education Programs in our parish. They include the following;
Religious Education Program
- Most of our religious education for children grades 1 though 9 is centered
around the Loreto Model of Religious Education. The program consists of an
intensive two-week program in the summer and three or more "follow-up"
weekends during the year. The follow-up weekend classes range from 1 to 2.5
hours in length and are centered around the theme of the year (Church,
Scripture, or Creed) and specific topics related to that
time of the Church year (ie: Pentecost, Lent, etc.).
At present the Religious
Education Program is divided into multi-age groupings which typically includes primary grades 1-3, intermediate grades 4-6 and
Junior High School grades 7-9.
First Eucharist -
Also know as First Communion, this program is generally for students in grade 2 and begins during the Lenten season. The five to six classes end in May
with a special Mass and inspiring ceremony for the First Communicants.
First Reconciliation-
Also known as First Confession, this sacramental preparation takes place when
the child is in grade 2 & 4. The program begins prior to the Advent season
(December) and the Sacrament is celebrated during Advent.
Confirmation -
Preparation actually begins in the 2nd grade and continues through grade 10.
Students are required to attend the Religious Education Programs (see above)
during the summer and follow-up weekends during the year. They will also be
required to attend retreats, complete either one long term, or three short term
projects, and are encouraged to participate in the parish Youth Group,
Appalachia Workcamp, and Stubenville East High School Youth Conferences, as well
as other diocesan activities. The student is also expected to receive the
Sacrament of Reconciliation yearly and attend Mass regularly. Final preparation
will take place with Confirmation classes in the 10th grade.

RCIA- The Right
of Christian Initiation begins with three sessions in the fall, reaches its
climax at the Easter Vigil, and concludes with three sessions in the spring. It is a program
designed for adults or young children to become
Catholic. Our parish has had the fortune of initiating several individuals and
families. If you are interested in becoming Catholic, please feel free to
contact us.
